Cool stuff coming out

According to this, they're going to be reprinting the old Gold Key comics based on the Irwin Allen TV shows from the 60s--Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants.

I am not a huge Irwin Allen fan, but I do have a soft spot for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (which I caught in syndication, not during its initial run, thankyouverymuch!) and I will probably want that first volume.

What surprises me here, though, is that they don't mention a Lost in Space comic. Did they not make one? That seems like a lost opportunity, since it was easily the most kid-friendly of all the Irwin Allen shows and the one that more people seem to have heard of.

More titles to add to the pull list (potential spoilers maybe?)

I've been trying to catch up on reading other people's blogs (it's one of those "one step forward, two steps back" things), and had gotten as far as Lying in the Gutters when I came across this:


I understand that following the events of "Batman RIP," both main Batbooks will be put on hiatus for a short period, replaced by a new title, "Battle Of The Cowl" by Grant Morrison.

We’ll see a struggle for the legacy of the Batman after the events of the "Batman R.I.P" storyline, between the likes of Robin, Jason Todd, Nightwing, Damien and who knows, maybe Azreal and Bat-Mite while they're at it.

So "Nightwing" will be renamed "Red Robin" while "Robin" becomes… "Batman And Robin."


I'd read that. I'd so read that. Whatever it means.

We want it.

The kids are enthused about the prospect of that upcoming Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion game. They aren't all that excited about the fusion aspect, although I think that'll change when they actually play the game.

The nine-year-old has said that she hopes that Deadpool is in this one.

All her Ultimate Alliance teams include Deadpool. In fact, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the source of the family love of Deadpool. The reason we buy his comic book. How's that for a reversal of the usual pattern?

Early comic purchase planning

According to the Newsarama report on the DC universe panel at the current comic convention (seriously, how many comic conventions are there these days?), we can look forward to this:


A fan who was "very sad" when Jason Todd came back but came around, asked when we would see the character next. Morrison said there's a "big" Jason Todd series coming up after "Batman R.I.P."


I'll try it out. I'm assuming this means mini, not ongoing?

I've been skimming the NYCC coverage at Newsarama, and have seen two things there that have me skipping for joy.

1. Power Girl comic coming up.

2. Secret Six comic coming up.

I'm not sure which I am looking forward to more!

Looking forward to this even more now

The new comic I'm most looking forward to these days is Titans. Not because of this preview, although that looks all right. But...I'd assumed that this would be a temporary-at-best gathering of old friends, which would have been fine by me. What it says in the preview is:


A new team of Titans is born in the extra-sized first issue of a new ongoing monthly...! Someone or something is continuing its attack on anyone who’s ever been a Titan, including Nightwing, Starfire, Donna Troy, Beast Boy and Raven. You won’t want to miss this new startling chapter in Titans history that may forge a new team from the ashes of old, dead friends.


So, I didn't know it was an ongoing, and it is, which is pretty cool. And there's the potential for seeing at least part of the old New Teen Titans (which I read back in the eighties) together on a regular basis. I'm assuming that it won't be a case of reuniting the old group (though that would be neat as well) but I'm thinking that I'll like it. Although the "old, dead friends" bit does make me worry some...

Newsarama says that the folks who do Action Philosophers (which I love) are going to be doing another project: Comic Book Comics. A history of comic books, written in comic book form. How cool is that?
